Be appalled, O heavens, at this,
be shocked, be utterly desolate, says the Lord,
for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water,
and dug out cisterns for themselves,
cracked cisterns that can hold no water.

You could save yourself a lot of time if you talk to a Jew about the text.
See: Gen. 22:5 "Then Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the ass; I and the lad will go yonder and worship AND COME AGAIN TO YOU.
(Abraham had faith that Isaac would come out ok)
The Torah is very carefully written.
