Which was the scarier piece in last Thursday's USA Today?
a) The front page article on the NSA's "call tracking" program
b) The article on the front page of the "Life" section which asked the serious question: "Is Oprah Winfrey a spiritual leader?" and quoting some professor somewhere who called her "a hip, materialistic Mother Teresa."

Among the books available at the AugsburgFortress display at our Synod Assembly last week was one titled The Gospel According to Oprah, which appears to be part of a "Gospel According to..." series published by Westminster John Knox Press, which published The Gospel According to Peanuts over 35 years ago. Others at the AFP display included "...the Simpsons," "...Tolkien," "...Harry Potter," and "...America." A look at the cover blurbs suggests a rather, uh, uneven range of quality in the series.
